I recently got my hands on the much raved L.A. Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks. I spotted them during one of my grocery trips at Nccc Mall. I got them at one P125 a pop, which is almost half the price than the ones sold online.
(Insider tip: If you’re living in Davao, you can score affordable, U.S price L.A Girl products at Nccc Mall. This is where I usually get my L.A. Girl fix for years now. And if you’re wondering, yes, they are authentic.)
L.A. Girl has been leveling up their makeup game over the past years and they’ve come out with a bunch of interesting products. One of their newest releases is the L.A. Girl Matte Flat Velvet lipsticks. This line comes in 26 fabulous shades ranging from nudes to bold colors such as blue, grey and even black.
The formula is something you’d consider as creamy matte. It’s not full on matte, but not as soft as creamy or satin lipsticks. Once it settles, it has this matte yet plump look on the lips. Staying power is around 4 to 5 hours, but it is not transfer resistant and will fade when you eat or drink. Consistency is not the same for all the shades – the lighter ones are rather patchy and settles into the lines of your lips. It does have a fruity, floral-y scent that fades away after a couple of minutes. I don’t usually mind scents on lipsticks, but this one is a little bit strong for my liking.
What I do like about them though is that, they feel light and comfortable on the lips. I like that they’re not mega matte, but somehow I still do get that matte look, especially when the product has already settled for a few minutes. I actually prefer this over the Matte Pigment Gloss variant. I also like that they have quite an interesting color line up- there’s definitely something for everyone. Packaging is pretty decent considering their affordable price point – not flimsy or tacky at all.
Blessed is a bright, baby pink shade that I thought wouldn’t look good on me. Surprisingly, it works on my morena skintone. One thing I don’t like about this is, it is rather streaky and patchy. It slides off when you have lip balm underneath. Nonetheless, I find the color fun and vibrant – something I would wear if I’m feeling happy.
Bliss is a universally flattering medium pink shade. I like how it brightens my skin, giving me that fresh, im-ready-for-a-date look. It’s also a great everyday shade that can easily transition from day to night.
Love Triangle is a bold purple shade. It’s something that I don’t usually gravitate to as it’s way out of my comfort zone. The reason I picked this up is because I’ve always wanted to try a violet/purple lipstick shade, but I didn’t want to splurge on the cult favorite, MAC Heroine. I figured this was the best time to test the waters in this side of the color wheel. I quite like it, but definitely not something I would wear in broad daylight. What do you think? Does it suit morenas like me?
Relentless is yet another universally flattering shade. It’s a classic true red with blue undertone, making it suitable for all skintone. I love the consistency as it glides on smoothly and applies evenly on the lips.
I’m pretty impressed with these lipsticks. I think what got me sold really is, obviously their price tag, and also the color selection. The shades are well curated and they do look high end. I specifically love the bolder shades. So yes, if you’re looking for an affordable creamy matte lipstick, this is worth a try.
