Definitely Japan. Definitely Kojie.san

Some girls are blessed with good genes that they are lucky enough to remain flawless throughout their growing years. Some others experience skin damage due to pollution, hazardous workplace, and unhealthy lifestyle. And then there are those who are unwilling victims of hormonal acne. I am one of the unwilling pack.

I have been battling with hormonal acne for as long as I can remember; no thanks to my crazy hormones. I was literally a walking pimple during my teenage years. On top of that, I was also dark-skinned! Imagine a girl with tan skin having a face studded with pimple scars..with a soul praying for the ground to cut open and eat her alive! Yes, emo.  Feel free to judge.

Anyway, I was already into my second year in college when my mom decided it was time to visit the dermatologist. I guess even her couldn’t stomach the map of scars doodling across my face. The Derma prescribed Kojic Acid gel, which according to her, is the most effective thing to vanish dark spots caused by acne. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find it. Not a single pharmacy in our city sells that tiny tube of skin miracle. It was almost depressing.

One day while at a certain pharmacy, I spotted a white box with a face of a Japanese lady in the midst of a sea of body soaps; it was Kojie.San.  I showed it to my mom upon seeing that it contained Kojic Acid. Out of frustration and desperation, we gambled on it. And guess what? It was the best decision ever!

I wasn’t even after the whitening effects it claimed, to be quite honest. I gave it a try because it was the closest thing to what my dermatologist prescribed to me. I used it as a regular facial wash; lathered it to my face and left it for a minute or two before rinsing. During my first week of use, I distinctly remember the tingling sensation I felt. That’s when I knew the product was doing some sort of sorcery to my troubled skin.

See my transformation after the jump

After a few months of using the product, I noticed that not only did my acne scars lightened, my skin looked brighter and even-toned. It took about a year of beating before my scars looked forgivable. I was so happy with the result that I pushed the bar further and used the soap to whiten the dark areas of my body such as my elbows and knees. These areas and the rest of my body lightened significantly after continuous usage.

Throwback darkness for you all! This picture was taken Pre-Kojie San stage. Early 2006, I think.

I became a firm believer and even until now, even after trying out different whitening products, I still find myself going back to Kojie.San. It’s always what I reach for whenever my hormonal acne come to surface and leave nasty scars. I also rely to this product whenever I want to prepare for the beach season or certain occasions that calls for dresses that show off a little bit of skin.

And then there was light! Taken 3 years after continuous usage.

So that’s the story behind my battle with acne scars. I was really glad that I found Kojie.San at the time when I thought my teenage self would be scarred (pun intended) for life.

So, if you’d ask me why is it important to use only the original Kojic acid soap when it comes to your skin care needs?

1. Pioneers are King!

Kojie.San is the first kojic acid soap to be commercially available in the Philippine market. You know what they say about pioneers, right? There are a lot of Kojic Acid soaps out there, but the fact that Kojie.San was the first to reach the Philippine shores tells a lot about their strong global presence.

2. Micro Peeling

Kojie.san has a micro peeling effect, which makes it a potent whitening product. Micro-peeling gets rid of the dead skin that causes dark spots and skin aging. It lifts the outer layer in order to reveal a fresh, radiant, and whiter skin.

3. Chemical Free

It does not contain any harmful chemicals. Ingredients include Pure Kojic Acid (a by-product in the production of Koji or Malted Rice), Sweet Orange, Glycerine, Vegetable Extracts, and Vitamin C.

4. Packed with Antioxidants

It contains antioxidants to prevent damage to the skin cells.

Up to this day, I still do get episodes of hormonal acne; the kind that spreads like wildfire and leave dark spots that take forever to lighten. But I don’t worry all that much anymore, especially that I know Kojie.San is just around the corner waiting to rescue me.

How about you? Do you have a Kojie.San story?

This is my ultimate bath soap together with Cyleina Black Pearl Soap. This really whitens/lightens the skin. But I don't use it on my face. Most people say this heals acne but I don't think it prevents acne. I'm using DermClinic's Facial AHA Soap on my face instead which is 80 pesos only.

I’m suffering now from severe acne and I just don’t know how to get rid of them. Been to different dermatologists, but I regret visiting them and get my acne pricked! It gotten worse as ever that I can’t even look at my face in the mirror (sad life). So I get back to using Clindamycin and a peeling lotion, it removed some of my scarring but not totally my acne. I was quite frustrated.. Acne has been affecting my social life almost a year now. I can’t even go out of the house, thi is really insane. So later this week I decided to use kojie.san again… it easily dries up my active pimple. I hope this will get better soon. ugh. And I also have closes comedones that just doesn’t go away from my face.. But thanks to this post, you’re an inspiration. πŸ™‚

Hi, thanks for finding inspiration from this post. If I may suggest, you can also try consulting an OB-Gyne as your acne might be more of a hormone thing. I’ve had PCOS (Hormonal Imbalance) for as long as I can remember and it’s one of the causes why I experience acne breakouts every now and then. You may need to have oral treatments also to prevent acne breakouts. πŸ™‚

Really? Even the ice pick scars? Sorry if I ask too many questions. I’m too desperate. I’ve been trying treatments that I’ve seen on Google, but none of it seems to work. Thanks for answering btw πŸ™‚

          Hi Eunice,

Ice Pick scars are deeper and are much more difficult to treat than superficial (dark) acne scars. Kojic acid only helps in lightening dark/pigmented scars. It can help in evening out the color of your skin, but it cannot help in smoothening out its surface. The best way to treat ice pick scars is to really consult a dermatologist. You may undergo diamond peels and a series of acne laser treatments, which I actually had in the past.

As for the kojic soap, it can only do so much.

          Hope this helps! πŸ™‚
